Guest Room

A bit of a 'collateral damage' reno, this back bedroom got the floor that was supposed to go in kitchen. These 'little' extra project, and the extra project they spawn in turn, is the hidden joy of renovating.  You find yourself staring at the extra wood/new wall/unexpected hole and saying "well, as long as that's the case, we may as well do this..." and off you go to the hardware store for the 37th time that week.
So this extra reno project has created an extra collateral reno project: now I'm going to have to strip, sand and re-stain the headboard before the old bed frame goes back in because the floors are so nice!

In the before pictures, you can see the old original fir floors (like those in the Hallway) and painted battleship grey.  We didn't expect to find these directly under the carpeting, but instead some of the glued-down vinyl tile like in the rest of the main floor.
This, along with the old door frame that we found covered up in the wall that the stairs are now against (ironically, pretty much where that broom is leaning in the photo), has one wonder how many different uses this space has had over the hundred plus years!

Projects:
  • New floors
  • Install nosing along baseboards
  • Sand and stain the bed frame (modification: paint the bed frame)
  • Reassemble room
  • Sew curtains
  • Create summer bedspread out of vintage linens
  • Convert part of the closet into art supply storage
