Living Room

Our living room has always been a bit of a challenge to arrange - being a long and narrow space, with windows on two walls, and an opening and access to the stairwell on the third.  This leaves only one long wall for placing any large items, namely the TV, speakers and artwork, not to mention furniture.

We were fortunate enough to find Tobey at McGee Salvage works who saves old wood so it can be reused and have another life - he sold us this beautiful red oak floor with some boards that are over 12' long!  We also got the clear vertical grain fir (CVG) Douglas fir trim from him - which came out of the Pope & Talbot headquarters west of Seattle in the Puget Sound.  We chose to trim out the windows too, using an original one in the Spare Bedroom as a guide and inspiration to add back sills both here, and in the Dining Room to the double-hung windows

Having this old, reclaimed wood has really added to the warmth and soulful feeling of the house.  Its as though it has finally been able to ditch those ill-fitting clothes and show off its gorgeous physique.
